Sebastian Baumann (* 1729 in Dachau ; † December 4, 1805 in Friedberg ; also: Sebastian Paumann ) was a German watchmaker .

Life

Baumann was born in Hadersried , Dachau district in 1729 . First he learned watchmaking and then he went hiking . In 1752 he was mentioned as a traveling journeyman in Graz . In 1758 he applied for civil rights in Friedberg, where he married Maria Barbara Mahlen, daughter of a watchmaker, on June 19 of the same year. Until his death on December 4, 1805, he lived and worked together with his wife Barbara as a watchmaker in Friedberg.

In the Heimatmuseum Friedberg there is one portrait each of Baumann and his wife Barbara. Both pictures were painted by Sigismund Reis in 1768 . They show him with a holder for pocket watch movements and his wife Barbara with a fretsaw .

Services

Baumann was a watchmaker and specialized in the manufacture of pocket watches and carriage watches. Many of his watches are known and scattered all over the world.
