Sigmund Ris
Sigmund Ris (* 1431 in Sterzing , † 1532 in Flaurling near Innsbruck ) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman and library donor.
The son of the Sterzing citizen and businessman Hans Ris became a pastor in Flaurling in 1479. He remained there until 1526. The chaplain of Archduke Siegmund the Rich received a coat of arms in 1498 awarded the 1510 Maximilian I with a crest was improved. It shows a giant splitting a tree and is now used as the municipality's coat of arms.
Ris turned the little hunting lodge left to him by the sovereign into a representative rectory (today the "Risen building"). An extensive foundation from 1504 was supposed to keep his memory alive. The precious library still exists in Flaurling today.
A magnificent red marble tombstone in the village parish church commemorates this remarkable personality.
