Sigurd Greven

Sigurd Greven (born December 29, 1908 in Cologne , † May 10, 1981 in Breitscheid ) was a German publisher .

After completing his apprenticeship, he joined the fourth generation of the family, the Greven Verlag Köln, which his mother Hedwig Greven ran in 1932 . In 1938 he brought out the first telephone book in Cologne ("Local Remote Speech Book for Greater Cologne").

After the destruction in the Second World War, Sigurd Greven rebuilt Greven Verlag Köln and Greven's Adreßbuch-Verlag as well as the associated printing company Greven & Bechtold. On May 10, 1981, Sigurd Greven died in an aircraft accident with his Cessna in Breitscheid near Wetzlar . He was buried in Cologne in the Melaten cemetery (hall 54).

The company was run by his widow Irene Greven until her death in January 2015. In honor of her deceased husband, she founded the Sigurd Greven Foundation with the aim of promoting Cologne's cultural, art, music, legal and economic history in ancient, medieval and modern times as well as supporting the Schnütgen Museum in Cologne .
