Sigvard Munk
Sigvard Jensen Munk (born April 17, 1891 in Ørnstrup near Horsens , † April 10, 1983 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish social democratic politician and Mayor of Copenhagen from 1956 to 1962.
Munk was a member of the Copenhagen City Parliament from 1928 to 1935, an alderman from 1935 to 1938, and social mayor from 1938 to 1956. From 1956 to 1962 he was Lord Mayor of Copenhagen.
From 1931 to 1938 Munk was also a member of the Danish Folketing .
During the German occupation of Denmark in 1943, Munk ordered that the Torah scrolls from the Great Synagogue in Copenhagen be hidden in the crypt of the Trinitatis Kirke .
