The Sihlcity Church was an ecumenical and interfaith open chapel in Zurich-Wiedikon from March 22, 2007 to April 30, 2019 . It was located in the Sihlcity shopping, residential and leisure center, which opened in 2007 . It was sponsored by the Association of Evangelical Reformed Churches in Zurich , the Association of Roman Catholic Churches in the City of Zurich and the Christian Catholic Church in Zurich. The pastoral offer could be used regardless of faith .

Establishment and offer

A look into the Sihlcity Church.

The two main offers of the ecumenical Sihlcity Church were the chapel and the opportunity for pastoral care talk .

The chapel served as a room of silence to gain strength for coping with everyday life. Here devotion , prayer and meditation could be found. A candlestick awaited the visitors. A book of concerns to write in, as well as Bibles and Holy Scriptures from other religions were available, as was the weekly Rastwort , a term that was coined in 2007 specifically for the Sihlcity Church.

The rooms were designed by Vehovar & Jauslin Architektur, which received the Best Architects 2008 award especially for this in Düsseldorf . The stained glass for the prayer room was created by Lucerne artist Hans Erni and produced in the Simon Marq studio in Reims. A large Easter candle shone by the lectern, the ambo .

The reception and the room of silence were looked after on a voluntary basis . A trained and experienced pastor was always present for discussions during opening hours .

The Partime clock, newly designed by the Zurich designer Andreas Mossner, was inaugurated as a church clock on May 14, 2009 . At that time it was the first permanently attached clock of its kind. It had found its place as a wall closure in the common room.

The Sihlcity Church was added to the list of cultural, religious and interreligious places of learning in 2012. This was done by the interreligious office INTR ° A and the interdenominational platform for religious education and religious instruction RPI-Virtuell in Germany.

Closure

Due to little use of the church, it was closed at the end of April 2019; the leases were terminated.
