Sikhanyiso Dlamini

Sikhanyiso Dlamini (born September 1, 1987 in Mbabane ), Princess of Swaziland , called Pashu , is the eldest daughter of King Mswati III. She is the firstborn of over 20 children of the king; her mother is one of Mswati's 15 women.

Life

Sikhanyiso Dlamini's mother, Inkhosikati LaMbikiza (born Sibonelo Mngomezulu) is Mswati's third wife and the first he chose himself.

Princess Sikhanyiso was sent to the United Kingdom at the age of 14 , where she was taught at St. Edmund's College. At the age of 17, she began studying communication in the subjects of language and drama at the Biblical Institute at Biola University in California . Until 2012 she studied at Sydney University in Australia, where she obtained a master’s degree in “digital communication”.

During her stay abroad, Princess Sikhanyiso was exempt from her father's directive, called Umcwasho , that all Swaziland unmarried girls and women must wear two colored collars as a sign of chastity for five years . When she returned to Swaziland in 2001, she wore the chastity mark. During her time abroad, she often wore jeans or mini skirts, clothes that are considered improper for women in Swaziland. Shortly before the Umhlanga (also reed dance, Reed Dance Festival) in 2005, she attended a party at her mother's residence where alcohol was drunk and loud music was played. For this she was punished with a blow of the stick. In an interview in 2006 she criticized the system of polygamy and thus indirectly her father. Polygamy only gives men advantages and is therefore unfair and bad. In response, the princess was banned from speaking to the media.

Dlamini is active as an actress, singer and rapper under the name Pashu . She occasionally appears in public. So she sang a hymn to her father in pop music style. She plays an important role alongside her father in the 2008 documentary Without the King , which portrayed the gap between the wealth of the royal family and the impoverished population affected by the AIDS crisis.
