Silent Stream of Godless Elegy is a Czech folk metal band from Hranice na Moravě .

history

The band was founded in 1995 in Hranice , Moravia and quickly attracted the attention of the Czech metal scene with their debut album Iron . With the following album Behind the Shadows , awareness outside of the Czech Republic also increased. The band's final breakthrough came with their third album, Themes , at the latest , which was awarded a Grammy by the Czech Academy for Popular Music in 2000.

After several line-up changes between 2001 and 2004, the band began to work on another album with an almost completely new line-up . In 2005 the Redblack label released the new album Relic Dances , which was produced in collaboration with the well-known Czech ethno musician Tomáš Kočko and the dulcimer ensemble Radošov. It combines traditional Moravian music with the hard elements of Doom Metal . Critics were both enthusiastic about the original concept and the successful implementation. In addition, this album also received the Czech Grammy in 2004 (also known as Anděl since 2001) in the Hard & Heavy category.

The band has played at hundreds of concerts and festivals since its inception and has supported bands such as Anathema , Cradle of Filth , Skyclad and The Gathering .

style

The band's style is characterized by a mixture of hard Doom Metal and Moravian folklore music. Both the traditional Moravian ballads and Doom Metal are characterized by a gloomy and melancholy mood, which is reflected in the music and the lyrics. The vocals alternate between rough male growling and clear female vocals. Another typical feature of the band is the frequent use of the cello and violin , which mostly play a major role.
