Silväschtertrösche

The Silväschtertrösche (New Year's Eve threshing ) is one of the Seetal winter customs .

It takes place at the turn of the year between December 31 and January 1 in parts of Switzerland . After it was originally to be found in the entire Seetal , it is only practiced in Hallwil today .

A large New Year's Eve fire is piled up on the Bruderhübel and set on fire. The threshers are grown men. With their flails they thrash the old year out and in the new year in rhythm with two, three, four, six or eight.
