TU Silverminers Schwaz is a basketball club that is run as a section of the TU Sparkasse Schwaz . You are currently playing in the Tyrolean regional league. In addition, teams compete in the junior leagues of boys under 16 and under 19.

history

In April 1989, the TU's basketball section, which had been inactive for more than 10 years, was brought back to life. The aim of the founding members was to make the basketball game - this fast and tricky team game, which places high demands on technique, tactics and physical performance of the players - an integral part of the Schwaz sports scene.

YOUTH WORK IS A CAPITAL IN SCHWAZ

In order to realize this project and to ensure the continued existence of the basketball section in the future, efforts were made from the outset to build up youth teams. The first fruits of this youth work came in the 1989/90 season, when it was possible to set up a school team and let them take part in the Tyrolean championship (5th place).

The men's team that emerged from this time, led by our long-time coach Bernhard “Faxe” Kaufmann, won the Tyrolean championship three times in a row in the years 2000–2002 and 2006–2008.

THE GOLDEN GENERATION

After the 2007/08 season at the latest, they established themselves as the best team in Western Austria, when they immediately managed to get the runner-up title of the 2nd Austrian basketball league in the Silver City - they were only beaten by the hosts in the Final Four tournament in Traiskirchen .

In the 2008/2009 season they reached the Final Four tournament again, this time Dornbirn should be the venue. In the semi-finals, however, they narrowly failed because of the later champions of the season, KOS Celovec. The game for third place was also lost against the hosts from Dornbirn. In 2009/2010 they failed in the runner-up tournament and ended the season in 5th place out of 19 teams.

After the league was restructured into only two divisions (previously three), the Silverminers' greatest success to date was achieved in the 2010/2011 season. As the organizer and exemplary organizer of the Final Four tournament, it was also possible to set sporty accents in front of its own audience. In the semifinals a sensational victory was achieved against the first place in Division East, the Mattersburg Rocks. In the final it was up against the best West team - the Dornbirn Lions. Vorarlberg were already too strong an opponent in the preliminary round, against whom they could only win once in four games. So the Miners were outsiders in the final and ultimately lost significantly. The runner-up title was a sensational highlight for all players, coach Bernhard Kaufmann, assistant coach Vlaznim Perani and all officials around chairman Martin Allinger - because despite a comparatively much lower budget, in the now very professional league, they almost made it to the Top.

HIGHLIGHT AND UPGRADE

In the following season, the 2nd Austrian basketball league finally became an overall league with the ten best teams. The Silverminers did not get past eighth place due to some narrow, unfortunate defeats. The restructuring of the team in the direction of a young dynamic team with many players from its own offspring began this year.

The 2012/2013 season started the Silverminers with the youngest team in the league and without any legionnaires. Unsurprisingly, they found themselves in the table basement after the season and played a relegation tournament for the first time with two Carinthian teams (Panaceo Villach Raiders and Raiffeisen Radenthein Garnets) as well as their arch rival, the BBU Salzburg. This one ended with two wins from three games in second place, but withdrew from the second division for the next season.

FAREWELL TO THE SECOND LEAGUE AND THE PRESENT

After around, the players of our golden generation around Renan Ferreira, Michael Allinger, Joe Spiegel & Co hung up their basketball sneakers, at the same time some players moved away from Schwaz / Tyrol for professional / family reasons, which resulted in some mixed seasons new, young team from Schwaz were waiting.

For some time now, the performance curve has been pointing up again and the Silverminers are, as usual, regular guests in the regional play-offs and are performing well in the western league (3rd division). Furthermore, a new, talented generation of young athletes, who were able to achieve the mu16 championship title in 2018/19, is in the starting blocks, which will give us a lot of joy in the future!

In the 2019/20 season, the Silverminers and the TI Innsbruck go on basketball as the "SilverTitans Tirol" syndicate in the regional league.
