Sim Ann (simplified Chinese: 沈 颖; traditional Chinese: 沈 穎; pinyin: Shěn Yǐng; born March 12, 1975 ) is a Singaporean politician . As a member of the country's ruling People's Action Party (PAP), she is the high-ranking Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Communication and Information. She has been a member of parliament since 2011 and represents the constituency of the representation of the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC .

Career

Before his election to parliament, Sim worked as a civil servant. From 1998 to 2000, she was the assistant director of financial policy and planning at the Ministry of Health of Singapore . From 2000 to 2003 she was deputy director for implementation planning in the Ministry of the Interior. From 2003 to 2006, she was the deputy trade director in the Department of Commerce and Industry, and from 2007 to 2009, Sim was seconded as the regional director of International Enterprise Singapore . Based in Shanghai , Sim led a team that helped Singapore-based companies invest and sell in the East China region. From 2009 to 2011 she was Director of the National Population Secretariat and led efforts to reorganize the Secretariat into the National Population Secretariat .

politics

In the 2011 elections , Sim was elected to parliament as a member of the constituency representing the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC (GRC). She was a member of the PAP team in the GRC, led by Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who defeated the Singapore Democratic Party team by 48,773 votes (60.1%) to 32,406 votes (39.9%) that is under Tan Jee Say. She has represented the Bukit Timah community in the constituency since the election.

Following the election, Sim was appointed Senior Parliamentary Secretary in the Department of Education and the Department of Justice. Subsequently, on September 1, 2013, Sim was appointed Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Communication and Information.

In the 2015 elections , Sim was again a member of the PAP team, the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. The team, led by Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan , defeated the Singapore Democratic Party team with 62,786 votes (66.6%) to 31,494 votes (33.4%), which is led by Chee Soon Juan.

On September 28, 2015, it was announced that, effective October 1, 2015, Sim will be the senior minister of state for the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

Effective August 22, 2016, Sim resigned her appointment as a MOF Senior State Minister and assumed the role of Senior State Minister in the Department of Commerce and Industry.

On May 1, 2018, Sim was appointed senior minister of state in the Ministry of Communications and Information and resigned from her role in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Sim trained at Raffles Girls' School and Hwa Chong Junior College before receiving a Presidential Scholarship to study at Exeter College, Oxford University, where she graduated in Philosophy , Politics and Economics (PSA) in 1997 and 1998 she completed a Masters of Arts in Political Science from Stanford University . Sim also holds a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Translation and Interpreting from Nanyang Technological University , which she graduated in 2005.

Sim is married to Mok Ying Jang. The couple have three children (two sons and a daughter).
