Simeon I (Patriarch)
Simeon I († 9 ) or Schim'on ben Hillel ( שמעון בן הלל) was a Jewish patriarch .
Life
Simeon I was a direct descendant of King David . The patriarch was a tannait , i. H. a teacher of the first generation of the Mishnah and prince of the Sanhedrin . After the death of his father Hillel in the year 9, Simeon I took over the office of patriarch. However, Simeon I died that same year. When Simeon I died, his son Gamaliel I , called "the old one", became patriarch.
