Simon Gutowski

Simon Gutowski (* 1627 ; † 1685 ) was a Polish organ builder and composer .

Life

Gutowski was a Polish nobleman who went to Russia and settled in Smolensk . Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich brought him into his service. Gutowski became Kapellmeister of the Tsar's court in Moscow . He built a whole series of organs for the tsar. He was not only an organist and a cinnamon ballist, but also a builder of keyboard instruments. Simon Gutowski was a multi-talented artist who recalled the personalities of the Italian Renaissance with the breadth of his interests. It was with him that sheet music printing began in Russia. In 1662 the Shah of Persia received a Gutowski organ as a gift from the Russian Tsar. In 1772 the Tsar's new court theater was equipped with a new Gutowski organ. In 1667 he manufactured the first press in Russia for making copperplate engravings for the Tsar's printing press . He also invented a workbench that was used to print the notes.
