Simon IV of Montfort
Simon (IV.) Von Montfort (French: Simon de Montfort ; † 1188 ) was a lord of Montfort , Rochefort and Épernon from the house of Montfort-l'Amaury . He was the second son of Simon III. von Montfort († 1181) and Mathilde.
In historical research, Simon has long been identified as identical to his father, which is why the ordinal number "IV." Was incorrectly used for his own son, who was correctly the fifth Simon of Montfort.
Little is known about Simon (IV.) Himself. He inherited the ancestral property of his family, while his older brother Amalrich V received the county of Évreux . Significant for the family was his marriage to the Anglo-Norman noblewoman Amicia de Beaumont, a daughter of Robert de Beaumont, 3rd Earl of Leicester , which gave the Montfort family a claim to the English county of Leicester . Simon was buried in the traditional grave of his family in Hautes-Bruyères , his widow married Guillaume II. Des Barres .
His children were:
- Simon IV († 1218), Lord of Montfort etc., 5th Earl of Leicester
- Guido († 1228), lord of La Ferté-Alais , Bréthencourt and Castres
- Perenelle († 1216), ∞ Barthélemy de Roye , royal chamberlain
