Simon Miedema
Simon Miedema (born July 13, 1860 in Harlingen , † May 5, 1934 in Rotterdam ) was a Dutch sculptor .
Life
Simon Miedema was a son of the painter Rein Miedema and his wife Jeltsje Schaafsma. He came to Rotterdam with his parents in 1861, where his father worked as a painter and later became a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts and Technical Sciences . Simon began studying at this college as a sculptor. He won the Dutch Prix de Rome in 1879 , which enabled him to spend six months in Rome. From 1880 to 1926 he was a teacher at his alma mater.
His son Rein (1886–1954) published a biography of his father in 1934.
