Purely Miedema

Rein Miedema (born August 19, 1835 in Harlingen , † April 23, 1912 in Rotterdam ) was a Dutch painter .

Rein Miedema was a son of the iron trader Simon Miedema and Aafke van der Heiden. Miedema worked as a plasterer in Harlingen. In 1861 the family moved to Rotterdam, where Miedema worked as an ornament manufacturer from 1868. Then he discovered painting and from 1885 he stated that his profession was a painter. Miedema later became a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts and Technical Sciences . His work is exhibited in the Hannemahuis City Museum in Harlingen and in the Frisian Maritime Museum in Sneek .

Rein Miedema was married to Jeltsje Schaafsma. One of her sons was the later sculptor Simon Miedema (1860–1934).
