Simon van Beek (born May 18, 1986 in Uster ) is a former Swiss speed skater . Between 2002 and 2008 he secured nine Swiss championship titles and has held the Swiss national records over 100, 500 and 1000 meters several times.

Career

At the Swiss Individual Distance Championships in Davos in 2005 , he won his first individual title at national level over the two 500 meters. He was also able to win the title over 1000 meters and in all-around competitions. He took silver over 1500 meters. At the speed skating junior world championships in 2005 in Seinäjoki , Finland , van Beek ran to 43rd place in the four-way battle. In January 2006 he started in Klobenstein for the first time in the B World Cup. Over 1000 meters he ran in 23rd place. A few days later he won bronze over 500 meters and silver in the all- around at the joint Swiss and Austrian championships in Innsbruck .

At the Swiss Sprint Championships 2007 in Davos van Beek won the sprint all-around title. At the individual distance championships taking place at the same time, he also secured the title over two 500 meters and in the all-around competition. On January 27th and 28th 2007 he made his debut in the speed skating world cup in Heerenveen in the all-around competition . However, he failed as 30th in the run-up. It was his only World Cup start.

Van Beek held the Swiss record over 100 meters (10.41 s), 500 meters (36.95 s), 1000 meters (1: 13.04 min) and the sprint four-way fight.

Van Beek ended his active career after the 2007/08 season.
