Simona Scarpaleggia

Simona Scarpaleggia (* 1960 ) is an Italian manager. She is the managing director of IKEA Switzerland.

Origin and career

Scarpaleggia grew up in Rome and studied political science at the LUISS University in Rome and did an MBA at Bocconi .

In 2000 she joined IKEA Italy as a personnel manager and held various functions and positions. In 2010 she became managing director of IKEA Switzerland. She is committed to equal opportunities. At Ikea Switzerland, the gender ratio is fifty-fifty, including at management level. Scarpaleggia has also implemented your second major concern, equal pay for equal work. The 50 percent share of women and equal pay are now considered internally within Ikea as a benchmark.

In 2013 she founded the association “Advance - Women in Swiss Business” with the aim of increasing the proportion of women on top management bodies to 20 percent by 2020, that is to say fivefold. In addition to Ikea, she has brought nine Swiss companies, including ABB , Swiss Re and Credit Suisse , on board for the foundation. In the meantime, 57 other companies have joined, including Swisscom , Nestlé and Swiss Post . She served as President from 2013 to 2017.
