Simone Burel

Simone Burel (* 1986 ) is a German linguist, author, entrepreneur and adviser.

Career

From 2005 to 2011 Burel studied German, English and pedagogy at the Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg and at the Queen Mary University of London, which was funded by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the Baden-Württemberg Foundation . In 2015 she received a scholarship from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom at the University of Heidelberg with her dissertation “Identity Positioning of DAX 30 Companies - The Linguistic Construction of Self-Image” on the language of DAX 30 companies (predicate: “summa cum laude ") to Dr. phil. PhD in German Linguistics. The dissertation was nominated for the Opus-Primum-Förderpreis of the Volkswagen-Stiftung for the best young journalist in 2015 and was awarded the Young Talent Prize of the Society for Applied Linguistics (GAL) "Professional Communication" in 2017.

After completing her doctorate in 2015, Simone Burel carried out research on the subject of “theory-practice transfer by means of linguistic corporate communication” with the post-doctoral scholarship Field of Focus 3 “Cultural Dynamics in Globalized Worlds” from the University of Heidelberg, from which she did the first linguistic Management consultancy founded in Germany as a scientific spin-off (then under the name LU-Kommunikation - today: LUB GmbH - Linguistic Management Consulting). From 2016 to 2018 she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for German as a Foreign Language Philology at the University of Heidelberg on gender and internet linguistics. She received a nomination for the Hengstberger Prize for hosting a symposium on fake news. In 2017 she was chosen among the top ten young scientists by the academics career portal due to the high practical relevance of her research . From 2013 to 2018 she was also a visiting lecturer at various universities.

Simone Burel has been managing director since 2015 and managing partner since 2019 of LUB GmbH - Linguistic Management Consulting , which specializes in AI-supported consulting approaches in the areas of HR & gender, CSR & sustainability as well as human-machine communication. Simone Burel won with LUB 2018 the economic development award of the city of Mannheim "MEXI" (Mannheim business start-up award) endowed with € 10,000.

In 2019 she was nominated for the Female Founders Award of the American Chamber of Commerce ( AmCham ).

In 2020 Simone Burel was appointed to the economic advisory board of bw-i ( Baden-Württemberg International GmbH), the competence center of the state of Baden-Württemberg for the internationalization of business and science.

In addition, she works as a mentor at the Universities of Mainz and Konstanz and is the author of various publications on the subject of language and communication in business and a Springer specialist book author.

Memberships

Simone Burel was a member of the German Economic Council until 2019. She is a member of the Society for Applied Linguistics (GAL), the research network "Language and Knowledge" of the top women in Baden-Württemberg and the Digital Media Women, the network success factor family-company network and the governance network for supervisory board members of DHBW Mannheim.
