Simone Demandt

Simone Demandt (* 1959 in Dortmund ) is a German artist.

Life

Simone Demandt studied at the State University of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and at the University of Stuttgart . In 1985 she graduated in art studies and art education with state exams.

Since 1987 she has been working exclusively as a freelance artist. Her photographic works have been shown in exhibitions at home and abroad since 1987, including solo exhibitions at the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck in Remagen, the Ostwall Museum in Dortmund, the Karlovy Vary Museum in the Czech Republic, the Goethe Institute in Nancy in France, and the Baden State Art Gallery -Baden , also in numerous group exhibitions.

Her work is represented in collections at home and abroad. Since 1996 she has been teaching photography in an artistic context at universities, most recently as a professor at the Saar College of Fine Arts .

Demandt dedicates herself to one topic in each of her photographic work groups. Examples are: atmospheric properties of gyms, garages or scientific laboratories at night. The subject of other groups of works is the object as an oscillator of civilizational processes. With her abstract, experimental work, the artist exploits the creative possibilities of photography and its technical limits. Demandt prefers to work with analog cameras in order to better exploit the possibilities of long-term exposure . Since 2009 she has been photographing rows of elderly people, inserting labels with foil pasted onto the camera magazine to create a star-shaped grid over the individual photographs.

Simone Demandt is a member of the German Photographic Academy (DFA), the German Association of Artists and the Association of Artists of Baden-Württemberg. She lives in Baden-Baden .
