Der Sonntag is a free Sunday newspaper that is published regionally in the southern Baden region and has a circulation of around 360,000 copies.

Four issues appear spatially separated: one for the Freiburg im Breisgau area , one each for the districts of Emmendingen ("northern Breisgau") and Lörrach ("Dreiland") and one for the Markgräflerland . A 2018 edition "Hochrhein" for Bad Säckingen and the surrounding area was discontinued. The newspaper, which has appeared weekly since 1997, mainly reports locally from the areas of politics, business, culture, food and leisure, and sports. There are also articles on national topics from the areas of pop, lifestyle, film and computers. Sonntag Verlags GmbH belongs to the "BZ.medien" group of companies ( Badisches Pressehaus GmbH & Co. KG), which also includes the Badische Zeitung .

The newspaper maintains editorial offices in Freiburg, Lörrach and Müllheim .

In 2013, Der Sonntag was awarded the Ralf Dahrendorf Prize for Local Journalism by the publishers of the Badische Zeitung : The third prize was shared by Wolfgang Messner from the Stuttgarter Zeitung and Daniel Gräber from Der Sonntag. Both have worked through the dubious privatization of the Hochrhein-Eggberg-Klinik in Bad Säckingen . The interaction between two different media from two different publishers was also recognized.
