Simone Simon (born April 23, 1910 in Marseille , † February 22, 2005 in Paris ) was a French actress .

Life

Simon began her acting career in Parisian theaters . There she was discovered in 1935 by the American film producer Darryl F. Zanuck . It was a successful Hollywood actress and was, among others, in addition to James Stewart in Henry Kings In the seventh heaven ( Seventh Heaven see 1937). She was especially known with Jean Renoir's The Human Beast ( humaine La Bête , 1938) and as a leopard woman in Cat People ( Cat People , 1942), directed by Jacques Tourneur .

After the Second World War, she mainly worked in French films. The Reigen ( La Ronde , 1950) based on Arthur Schnitzler's Reigen and Pläsier ( Le Plaisir , 1952) based on short stories by Guy de Maupassant , both directed by Max Ophüls, attracted particular attention . In 1956 she withdrew from the film business, only for a supporting role in the comedy The Unknown Beauty alongside Michel Piccoli , she returned again in front of the camera.

Simone Simon, who never married despite some love affairs, died of natural causes in 2005 at the age of 94.
