Sinchi Roca

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sinchi Roca , according to the Peruvian Quechua spelling Sinchi Ruq'a (in some sources according to an older spelling Sinci Roca ) was the second ruler ( Sinchi , after Manco Cápac ) of the Kingdom of Qusqu ( Cuzco ) (around 1230; some authors go instead from 1105). He was the son of Manco Cápac and father of the later Inka Lloque Yupanqui .

Two centuries later, under the government of Pachacútec Yupanqui, the Inca Empire developed from the Kingdom of Cuzco . In Inca mythology , Sinchi Roca led his family to the valley of Qusqu.

The chronicler Pedro Cieza de León wrote that Sinci Roca had Inca terraces built and created huge amounts of earth in the valley to increase the fertility of the soil.

The title Ruq'a means something like major or leader, while Qhapaq (his father's title) can be translated as warlord.
