Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) is one of the largest Asian telecommunications companies with sales of 18.2 billion euros and is headquartered in Singapore. Singtel was founded in 1992 and now employs around 19,000 people worldwide. The company is listed in the Straits Times Index on the Singapore Exchange .
Singtel offers business and private end customers voice services (e.g. telephony) or data services (e.g. Internet access) via landline and non-wired networks.
The company has an extensive broadband network in Singapore as well as a cellular network in Singapore and much of Australia. Singtel also has three satellite ground stations, owns and operates the ST-1 satellite with Chunghwa Telecom , has shares in APT Satellite Holdings and is a strategic partner of Inmarsat and Iridium.
Outside of Singapore, Singtel is constantly trying to improve its position. For example, in 2000, the second largest telecommunications company in Australia, Optus , was 100% acquired. The Singtel Group also has shares in the following companies, among others: Advanced Info Service (Thailand), Bharti Airtel (India), Globe Telecom (Philippines), Pacific Bangladesh Telecom (Bangladesh), Telkomsel (Indonesia).
Singtel offers solutions for the automotive, telecommunications, financial, retail, service, media, energy and manufacturing industries, as well as public administration.
