content
The title of the album suggests that Cash recorded pieces by Hank Williams on the album . In fact, only four of the twelve songs were covers of Hank Williams tracks, and all of those versions had been previously released by Cash. I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You) was already on Sings the Songs That Made Him Famous and You Win Again , Hey Good Lookin ' and I Could Never Be Ashamed of You on Greatest! contain.
All songs are about love and relationships that have mostly failed ( You Win Again and I Can't Help It ). Hey Good Lookin ' is a rather cheerful song, while I Could Never Be Ashamed of You is about sticking to your loved ones. I Love You Because , written by Leon Payne , was recorded by many contemporaries such as Elvis Presley .
The seven other songs are originals by Cash. Folsom Prison Blues and I Walk the Line were already part of his debut With His Hot and Blue Guitar from 1956 and Give My Love to Rose was released in 1957 as the B-side of the single Home of the Blues and was 13th on the country charts reached. Next in Line was on his second album ( Sings the Songs That Made Him Famous ) in 1957, which is why only four songs on the album were previously unreleased. These were Straight A's in Love (a song about everyday school life), I Love You Because (a love song), Come In Stranger (greeting a loved one after they return) and Mean Eyed Cat (a biting love song in the style of Hank Williams).
On June 17, 2003 a CD was released with five other songs. This also includes another cover of a Hank Williams title with Cold Cold Heart .
