The Sioux County Courthouse in Orange City , the Justice and Administration Building ( Courthouse ) of Sioux County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Iowa .
The current building is the third courthouse in Sioux County, founded in 1851. The first building was a one-and-a-half-story log cabin at what was then the county seat in Calliope (a district of Hawarden since 1893 ). When the county seat was relocated to Orange City in 1872 , a timber frame construction was erected here, but it soon could no longer meet the increased demands on the building. Therefore a new building was erected, which was handed over to its purpose in 1904.
The multi-storey building was designed by the architect Wilfred Warren Beach in Romanesque Revival built style of different colored sandstone. The construction work began in 1902, but was delayed until 1904 due to the bankruptcy of the construction company. The building is dominated by a six-story clock tower, which was damaged by a lightning strike in 1907. After the roof was repaired, a three-meter-high bronze statue of Justice was placed on the top of the tower.
Between 1976 and 1982 the building was extensively renovated and the interior was modernized to the state of the art at the time. In 1977 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places with reference number 77000559 .
