Sirbis , including Zedlitz itself, is one of the four districts of the municipality of Zedlitz in the Free State of Thuringia .

location

The village is about one and a half kilometers east of Zedlitz and only a few hundred meters north of the neighboring municipality of Crimla .

history

A burial mound from the Bronze Age was uncovered near Sirbis , suggesting that the area was settled very early.

The first written mention comes from the year 1287. Even before this time the village church was built . According to tradition, sirbis should be derived from the Sorbian name Serovic or Serovid. It can also be assumed that it is simply derived from the Sorbs' own name . Other names that are recorded in writing are Serewiz, Sirwis, Syrbis, Syrewisen and Syrwis. It is also mentioned in writing that beer was brewed in the village in 1722 and that the first savings bank association was founded in 1899. In 1933 there were 84 inhabitants, in 1939 79. Sirbis was incorporated on July 1, 1950.
