Sirius. Zeitschrift für Strategische Analyze is a quarterly German-language journal for strategic studies . It has been published as a print and online version by Verlag de Gruyter since the beginning of 2017 . The online editions of the first two years (2017/2018) are freely accessible, after which it was switched to payment mode. The publication is financed by the Science and Democracy Foundation (SWUD).
The main editor is Joachim Krause , Chairman of the Board of SWUD and Director of the Kiel Institute for Security Policy . Co-editors are Carlo Masala , University of the Bundeswehr Munich Munich, Andreas Wenger , ETH Zurich and Karl-Heinz Kamp , from 2015 to 2019 President of the Federal Academy for Security Policy . The Scientific Advisory Board includes, among others, Karl Kaiser , Harvard University and Peter R. Neumann , King's College London.
The editorial of the first issue says: “Strategic studies exist primarily in the Anglo-Saxon countries and in France as an independent discipline, in Germany this is still underdeveloped.” With “Sirius”, a publication is to be created with contributions from a wide area of strategic studies will be included in the German and German-speaking discussions. The magazine is understood as an attempt to make the world of foreign and security policy think tanks and research institutes productive for this debate. Its name comes from the brightest star in the sky , which has given seafarers and travelers orientation since ancient times.
