Musical creation

Siselabonga live at B-Sides 2018, Glauco Cataldo (guitar), Tarang Cissokho (Kora), Fabio Meier (drums)

Their first album Binta was released in 2016, the album was recorded in Dakar , Senegal in the 1001 Melodies studio and produced and published in Switzerland by the band itself and Richard Edwards. Only acoustic instruments can be heard on the album. Tarang's Kora, a West African bridge harp with 22 pages, plays the central role and is rhythmically accompanied by Fabio's calabash , a hollowed-out pumpkin, and accompanied by Glauco's acoustic guitar. Then there is the singing in Wolof by Tarang Cissokho and in the southern Italian dialect by Glauco Cataldo. Western sounds mix with the West African mandingo tradition, which Tarang Cissokho represents as a griot or djeli. Tarang Cissokho is the grandchild of Soundioulou Cissokho, who was named King of the Kora by the former Guinean President Ahmed Sékou Touré in 1967.

The album was followed by two tours in Switzerland and one in Senegal. For larger concerts they bring in an electric bass player (Matthias Abächerli / Gregory Schärrer), Fabio Meier then plays the drums and Glauco Cataldo plays the electric guitar.

The debut album, released on November 26, 2016, is purely acoustic. It has a running time of 36.86 minutes and contains seven tracks. It was recorded live in February 2016 in Dakar in three days and then produced by the band themselves in Switzerland.

The album is named "Binta" because this is the title track of the album. He addresses issues such as migration, pan-Africanism and interculturality , with Binta being the name of a girl. Tarang was in love with Binta, but she left Senegal to travel to Guinea , although the Ebola virus was rampant in Guinea at the time . The story is a metaphor for everyday life in Africa. At the same time, the track unites different African languages ( Pedi from South Africa and Wolof from Senegal) and thus represents the pan-Africanism supported by Siselabonga.
