The Sitina Tunnel (Slovak Tunel Sitina or Sitiny ) is a motorway tunnel on the D2 motorway in the Slovak capital, Bratislava . It runs through the Little Carpathians between the Bratislava-Polianky (59) and Bratislava-Mlynská dolina (61) junctions and lies entirely in the Karlova Ves district . The west tube is 1,440 m long, the east tube measures 1,415 m. A speed limit of 80 km / h applies in the tunnel.
Construction began in December 2003 and the first tube was ceremoniously pierced on February 8, 2005. The construction method was based on the New Austrian Tunneling Method . The ceremonial clearance with the last missing section of the D2 was on June 23, 2007, the traffic clearance took place the following day. The tunnel relieved the Patrónka intersection , which was often congested at peak times , completed the inner highway bypass of Bratislava and became the first two-bore road tunnel in Slovakia.
The cost was 3.5 billion SKK (approximately 116 million euros estimated) and increased to 4.5 billion SKK (about 149 million euros).
Due to the construction of the tunnel, the entrance to the Bratislava Zoo had to be relocated.
