Morals Police
Vice squad or Vice Squad (colloquially with custom abbreviated) is used to refer to staff undertaking the measures official bodies ( police ) mounted on the carriage of general morality directed. It is a department of the security police that has to intervene in cases of violations of public order with moral cause.
history
In the manual for Prussian district administrators in their official sphere of activity as well as for district deputies, landlords, district physicists, mayors and village mayors by Johann Daniel Friedrich Rumpf (Verlag Hayn, 1835) it says: “The main task of the moral police remains: to ennoble public life and out of it to remove the immoral as much as possible, but always only negatively ”.
In Meyer's Large Conversation Encyclopedia of 1909 it says about the duties of the moral police: “[T] he moral police should counteract certain external stimuli to immorality. This includes intervening against prostitution [...], against cohabiting , which is a public nuisance, and against the distribution of immoral writings and images [...]. Furthermore, the surveillance of the inns and taverns, the handling of the police hour, the control of the public dance amusements and other merrymaking as well as the measures against drunkenness are the subject of the moral police. ”Furthermore it says about the activity of the moral police after the turn of the century in Germany:“ Also the police surveillance of the games of chance is to be counted, furthermore the maintenance of the religious order and the action against the desecration of the holiday. Finally, the order of the welfare education of minors belongs in the area of the moral police. "
tasks
The moral police department (internally and colloquially also called custom ) deals with offenses and offenses against sexual criminal law . In addition to sexual coercion ( Section 177 (5-8 ) StGB ) and rape ( Section 177 (6-8) StGB), this also includes violations of pornography laws , human trafficking (Section 180b StGB old version) and pimping ( Section 181a StGB). The Hisba as the Islamic moral police
In some Islamic countries and regions, with the Hisba or the religious police, there are institutions or organizations that take on tasks similar to those of the moral police. Its task is the area of law and prohibition of the reprehensible and the enforcement of the Sharia .
