Sivert Aarflot

Sivert Knudsen Aarflot (* 23. October 1759 on the farm Aarflot, Ørsta , province Møre og Romsdal , † 14. July 1817 in the yard Ekset, Volda , province Møre og Romsdal) was a Norwegian revivalists.

Aarflot worked as a teacher, farmer, naturalist, author, publisher, printer and lensman . From January 2, 1810, he published the initially weekly Norsk Landboeblad , which is considered the first Norwegian local newspaper . Because the paper was often scarce and Aarflot fell ill, he had to stop the newspaper in June 1816. He owned a large library, wrote numerous books and made many writings accessible to the people through his printing house. Aarflot received several awards, including the Dannebrogorden , which the Danish-Norwegian King Fredrik VI. Awarded in 1809. In memory of Aarflot, the Sivert Aarflot Museum was set up at his place of work, the Ekset farm in Volda . Aarflot's grave is in the Volda cemetery.
