The women's Sony Open Tennis 2013 was the second of four tournaments of the WTA Tour 2013 , which belong to the highest category (Premier Mandatory). They were held from March 18th to 31st on Key Biscayne near Miami . At the same time, the men's ATP Masters 1000 took place there.

The defending champion in the singles was Agnieszka Radwańska from Poland , she was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual winner Serena Williams . Williams won in Miami for the sixth time and is the sole record holder ahead of Steffi Graf (five wins); her opponent Maria Sharapova failed for the fifth time in the final (including the last three editions). In doubles, the Russian Marija Kirilenko and Nadja Petrowa were defending champions, Petrowa was able to defend the title with her new partner, the Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik .

qualification

The qualification for the Sony Open Tennis 2013 took place on March 18th and 19th, 2013. Twelve qualifying places are played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
