Six Flags New Orleans is a former amusement park in the United States . The facility in New Orleans was opened as Jazzland in May 2000 and financed by local investors. The cost of the construction project was 135 million US dollars, with an estimated one million visitors per year. However, the number of visitors in the second year was only 600,000. Just two years after opening, the operator consortium had to file for bankruptcy and close the park, which covers almost 90 hectares. In 2002, Six Flags acquired the amusement park for $ 22 million and invested another $ 25 million in an upgrade that included six new rides . In April 2003 the new opening took place and the name was changed to the current name.

The amusement park, which is more than three meters under water, was so badly damaged by flooding during Hurricane Katrina from August 26th to 29th, 2005 that the management decided against reopening it. Shortly before the disaster, there were plans to expand Six Flags New Orleans to include a water park . In 2006 Six Flags left the site completely. The site remains fallow to this day.

After Six Flags filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, an agreement was reached with the city of New Orleans in a bankruptcy court in Delaware in December of that year . Accordingly, the company paid three million US dollars to the city and transferred the amusement park to her. New Orleans was also awarded a quarter of the sum insured that was to be paid out as a result of the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. Plans by the city of New Orleans to set up a factory outlet center on the site came to nothing in 2013. Six Flags New Orleans was the location for the film production of Jurassic World and Planet of the Apes: Revolution .
