Siyabonga Nomvethe (born December 2, 1977 in Durban ) is a South African football player .

Career

Siyabonga Nomvethe began his professional career in 1995 with the African Wanderers in the Premier Soccer League , where he played until 1998. From 1998 to 2001 the striker played for the South African record champions, the Kaizer Chiefs , before moving to Europe.

From 2001 to 2003 he played for Udinese Calcio , then from 2003 to 2004 for Salernitana Calcio and FC Empoli . After the 2004/05 season he moved to Sweden to Djurgårdens IF . Nomvethe still plays in Djurgården today, but returned to South Africa for an interlude during the 2005/06 season and played a few games for the Orlando Pirates . In 2006, the South African moved again to a European league, this time to the Danish club Aalborg BK . After three years Nomvethe left Aalborg BK and returned to his native South Africa, where he joined Moroka Swallows . In January 2016 he moved to AmaZulu Durban . There he scored his 111th goal in the South African first division in the 2-1 win against the Mamelodi Sundowns on October 21, 2017, setting Daniel Mudau's record as the league's record scorer.

National team

Siyabonga Nomvethe has been part of the South African national soccer team since 1999 . On April 30, 2010 he was appointed by the South African national coach Carlos Alberto Parreira to the expanded squad for the 2010 World Cup . He was not removed from the expanded squad. Nomvethe took part in the 2010 World Cup with the number 18 on his back .
