The Skalka (German small bars ) is a 1238 m nm high mountain in the Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers south of Prášily in the Bohemian Forest near the border with Bavaria .

Location and surroundings

The Skalka is the northern peak of the Poledník ridge. The striking, narrow rocky promontory with its spruce forest drops steeply to the west to the valley of the Prášilský potok ( Stubenbach ) and its tributary Smrkový potok / Hochfichtenbachl; behind it rise in the Bavarian Forest the Schachtenhausriegerl (1168 m above sea level) and the Scheuereckberg (1193 m above sea level). On the south-eastern slope, below a rock face, is the Karsee Prášilské jezero ( Stubenbacher See ); the Jezerní potok ( lake stream ), which rises in it , also forms a deeply cut valley east of the mountain to the Jezerní hřbet ( lake ridge ). To the south rises the Poledník ( Mittagsberg , 1315 m nm), southeast of the Předěl ( Great Riegel , 1238 m nm). From the north-west slope that slopes down to Ždánidla ( Steindlberg , 1309 m nm), the rocky hill Na kbelíku ( Am Hübel , 1081 m nm) rises .

At the northern foot of the Skalka are the desert areas Dolní Ždánidla ( Untersteindlberg ), Gruberg and Tremmeln, to the northeast the desert areas Slunečná ( Sonnberg ) and Jezerní ( Seeberg ), in the east the desert areas Nová Studnice ( Neubrunn ) and Zelenohorská Huť ( Grünwestlich Schachten), south to the west the Pomezí ( Gsenget ) desert and to the northwest the Horní Ždánidla ( Obersteindlberg ) desert

The Skalka is located in the core zone of the Šumava National Park and is not accessible. There is a geodetic point on its summit. The red marked hiking trail from Prášily around the Skalka leads through the valleys of Jezerní potok and Prášilský potok. The green border path from Frantův most ( Franzlbrücke ) on Gsenget to Poledník is only open from July to November.

From 1950 to 1991 the Skalka was in the restricted area of ​​the Dobrá Voda military training area, the small towns around the mountain were destroyed during this time.

Geomorphologically, the mountain is assigned to the Šumavské pláně subunit, the Kvildské pláně area, the Prášilské pláně subarea.
