history

Skalky weather radar

Because of its exposed location , Skalky, on the border of the Blansko and Prostějov districts , was planned as the location of a weather radar station since the late 1960s . Only the Prague-Libuš station was built during the communist times in 1971, the only one in Czechoslovakia . With the digitization of the Czechoslovak weather radar system in 1992, the old plans to set up another 16 manually operated stations were taken up again. A new concept emerged from this by 1993, which was now based on remote-controlled automatic stations on the basis of technical progress. The decision to build a 35 high weather radar tower a hundred meters west of the summit of Skalky at 730  m nm was made in May 1993 and was implemented by 1995 according to plans by Stavospol sro Brno. After a trial run, the station was put into operation on April 11, 1996.
