Skansehage
Skansehage is a sandbar on the east side of the Danish peninsula Odsherred belonging Rørvig Peninsula and extends into the Isefjord . The peninsulas belong to the municipality of Odsherred on the island of Zealand .
The shoreline of the reef is constantly changing. Skansehage, for example, is growing southwards by about one meter per year. A bay was created on the west side of the reef towards Rørvig , which has served as a natural harbor since the time of the Vikings . Somewhat in the hinterland is the Thingstätte Isøre, where royal elections were held in 1076 and 1104.
The name Skansehagen is derived from the Danish word Skanse , German Schanze and refers to the jumps on the headland . These military installations were built in the early 19th century during the war against Great Britain, which lasted from 1807 to 1814. A closed five-sided facility was created, as well as a ski jump in the form of a semicircle. Both are connected by a 300 meter long wall. Four to five gunboats were stationed in the bay and fought the British Navy after the Danish fleet had been destroyed.
The located in a region of Skanshage today as Schullandheim used white building dates from this period and was originally a cholera - quarantine station .
