Rock choir Speyer
The Rockchor Speyer is a choir of the Chorgemeinschaft Speyer eV (CGS) founded in February 2010. The choir consists of around 80 to 90 active singers, as well as an accompanying band in the style of a classic rock band with electric guitar, electric bass, drums and keyboard, which is made up of four professional musicians. Joe Völker from Mannheim has been the choirmaster and arranger since it was founded . With its claim to combine rock and choral music and reproduce it authentically with band accompaniment, the choir fills an existing vacuum in the German choral landscape.
history
A local call in the last quarter of 2009 in Speyer to found a new choir that should only present rock music was followed by over 70 singers of various age groups. The total number of members has since risen to around 130 people, of whom around 80 to 90 are regularly active on stage during live performances.
The first concert took place in the spring of 2011 in the sold-out Speyer town hall.
Concept and goal setting
The concept of the choir aims to harmonize the polyphonic choral singing with the powerful and hard sound of a rock band. The choir director assumes responsibility for this with the choice of musicians and with his arrangements of well-known rock songs. Guest musicians can complement the band with individual songs.
Soloists are deliberately avoided. The repertoire is presented by heart. The aim of the choir should be to enjoy singing and making music together. The fun of the members and the audience is also in the foreground. In doing so, the choir director ensures that the singers' vocal capabilities are continuously developed. Voice trainers are also regularly present at rehearsals and help with different approaches to work on voice training .
The association defines the goal as follows: “But that's exactly how visitors should feel at our concerts. Our joy and our fun in what we do should be transferred to them. Our audience should forget the adversities of everyday life and be able to leave our concerts with a hilarious hum or a satisfied smile. "
Voices
- Soprano 1
- Soprano 2
- Old 1
- Alt 2
- tenor
- bass
In addition, depending on the piece of music, it can happen that three equally large women's registers are required. Then a division into F1, F2 and F3 is made instead of soprano / alto.

repertoire
The repertoire is constantly being expanded with new pieces, and songs that have been in the program for a long time are gradually being replaced. A concert usually consists of 20 to 22 pieces.
Concerts / live performances
The concerts of the Rockchor Speyer are characterized by an energetic atmosphere within the choir and the band. You can tell the fun and enthusiasm of everyone involved, which quickly transfers to the audience, resulting in a great communal experience. The wide range of old and new hits also contribute to this.
"... and not only shone as a capable group that consistently grabbed, convinced and excited their audience standing at the end of the applauding audience." (Andreas Keller: Rheinpfalz , May 3, 2018)
