Skarbek
Skarbek (feminine form of name Skarbka ) is the name of an ancient Polish nobility that was mentioned in the 11th century .
The ancestor of the Skarbek was Michael Skarbek from Góra. Jakob Skarbek proved himself under the family coat of arms Abdank , also called Syrokomla, in the battle of Grunwald and thereby brought the noble family more influence in Poland-Lithuania . The noble family also gave birth to a branch of counts that still exists. The aristocratic family owned numerous estates in Poland, including the village of Żelazowa Wola , the birthplace of Frédéric Chopin , near Warsaw, and at the time of the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic they held official posts such as the Starost , castellan or voivode .
Skarbek means treasure, but can also be interpreted as the keeper of the treasure or treasurer.
