General

The Goldeck ski area is located on the northwest slope of the 2142 meter high Goldeck in the Latschur Group / Gailtal Alps . When the visibility is good, the panorama stretches from the Julian Alps to the Hohe Tauern . The ski area can be reached either by car via the toll-free Goldeck panorama road from Villach or via the cable car from Spittal an der Drau.

Lifts

There are seven lifts in total:

In 2006 the single chair lift “Goldecklift” and the pommel lift “Moosbodenlift” were closed and demolished due to the license expiring. Many licenses for the other lifts also expired in 2007.

Goldeck lift 1 and 2

This is the feeder aerial tramway from Spittal. It is divided into two sections:

  1. City to the village of Goldeck at 1640  m (middle station)
  2. Village / middle station at the mountain station at 2050  m

You have to change at the middle station if you want to go up the mountain. The trains travel at a speed of 36 km / h.

Accident 2019

During maintenance work after the ski season, an accident occurred on April 2, 2019 in the middle station in the tensioning room for the suspension cable of an aerial tramway, in which one cable car employee died and three others were injured.

Drag lifts

The "Bärnbisslift" was a curved tow lift. It is the longest and therefore also the most attractive lift on the mountain railway from the point of view of the slopes, here the area is completely equipped with an artificial snow-making system.

The "summit lift" was the only facility that led all the way to the summit, where you can enjoy a special view in good weather, here the area was partly artificially snow-covered. This lift was mostly closed for a short time due to the wind conditions.

The "Eggeralm lift" is the outermost facility leading into a nature-bound snow landscape, with natural amounts of snow this is a unique experience for snowboarders and freeriders. It is the only remaining drag lift that leads to the plateau.

Button lifts

The "village lift" is located in the middle station and opens up a practice area for beginners.

Seetallift

The "Seetallift" was the feeder from the parking lot to the summit. The chairlift was equipped with curves and was a unique experience because of the so-called "Bachmann curve". Until it was closed in 2010, it was the last and oldest curved chairlift in Austria.

Skyliner and "Bärnbiss" 2.0

The new ski lifts - two detachable 6-seater chairlifts - have been in use since the 2009/2010 season and the 2010/11 season. The Skyliner extends from the valley station of the former summit lift to the summit of the Goldeck and replaces the old single chairlift, which the Spittal residents simply call "The chair lift". The new Bärnbiss chairlift replaces the well-known curve tug. They are the first and second stages of the planned expansion of the Goldeck sports mountain.

Departures

According to the lift company, the Goldeckal run is the longest black run in the Alps. The descent is fully equipped with artificial snow and is prepared anew every day; however, snow reliability has become increasingly critical in recent years.
