The Goldeck is a 2142  m above sea level. A. high mountain of the Latschur group in the Gailtal Alps in Carinthia southwest of Spittal an der Drau . From a geological point of view, it forms the south-eastern continuation of the Kreuzeck group and, unlike the rest of the Gailtal Alps, is made up of crystalline rocks.

The Goldeck ski area is located on the north-western slope of the mountain with numerous ski slopes , ski lifts and the longest "black run" in the Alps. A cable car, opened in 2012, leads from the foot of the mountain in Spittal to the reservoir at around 1770  m , from there you can reach the ski area with two chairlifts, a children's area and the north run into the valley. A one-hour hike leads from the reservoir to the summit. On this one can find an inn and the Goldeck transmitter . To the east below the summit at an altitude of 1929  m is the Goldeckhütte of the Austrian Alpine Club . Operation of the aerial tramway from 1960 was discontinued after the end of the 2018/19 winter season because, on the one hand, the concession expired in 2020 and, on the other hand, a fatal accident occurred during maintenance work in April 2019.

Climbs

The ascent of the Goldeck turns out to be easy in summer, as well-developed paths (gravel and forest paths) enable a quick ascent. Routes 32 and 210 are the fastest and easiest. It is possible to take the cable car to the reservoir at 1770 meters, from there you can reach the summit cross in just over an hour. It is also possible to come by car, this is done on the south-east side of the mountain on the Goldeck panorama road to the Seetal inn and car park at an altitude of 1883  m .

The Ruperti long-distance hiking trail also leads over the summit .
