Skinn
The Skinn is a unit of measurement and historical currency unit in the Faroe Islands . Etymologically it corresponds to the shilling .
- As a measure of agricultural yield in the Faroe Islands , 1 skinn is 1/20 gyllin (cf. guilder ) and thus the smallest unit in this area.
- As the historical Faroese currency unit , 1 skinn is equivalent to 5 pfennigs.
- As a unit of mass , 1 skinn stands for 1 kilogram (4 Mørk ), for example, tallow from sheep .
- As a unit of measurement for pilot whale meat , one skinn corresponds to 38 kg of pilot whale meat plus 34 kg of whale fat, i.e. 72 kg of Tvøst og Spik , as the Faroese call it. In this context it is again 1/20 gyllin .
In the Faroese language , in addition to these units, it also means skin (as in English skin ), but also in the phrase a god skinn as much as a good person (see e.g. honest skin in German )
