Skipness ( Gaelic : Sgibinis ) is a small hamlet in Argyll and Bute , Scotland , on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula . The place is a few kilometers south of Tarbert within sight of the Isle of Arran .
The nearby ruins of Skipness Castle and Kilbrannen Chapel , which contains some rare tombstones, make the place historically interesting. The chapel and castle ruins both date from the 13th century and are maintained by Historic Scotland .
A well-known café near the castle offers local fish specialties and makes Skipness a popular tourist destination. In Port Na Chro, not far from the city, holiday homes are rented close to the beach. There is also an ecological tannery in the area .
