Sky jump

SkyJump is a joint development of Waitomo Adventures, a provider of adventure tours, and AJ Hackett , a provider of particularly spectacular bungee jumps . This extreme sport is based on a technology called "fan-descenders" that is used for parachute jump training and stunts .

The most famous places where SkyJumping is currently offered are the Sky Tower (Auckland) , the Macau Tower and the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas.

Secured with a special hip and chest strap, you are attached to three ropes with a high load-bearing capacity. Stabilize the side cables so that even in strong winds the jumper doesn't get too close to the tower. The middle rope runs in a cable drum, on whose axis an impeller is attached, which brakes the rope through the air resistance. A reduction gear ensures that the vehicle brakes slowly approx. 10 meters above the ground.

In contrast to bungee jumping, the body is not thrown back up again. The body is therefore only slightly stressed.

Sky Tower Auckland

The SkyJump takes place from the highest observation platform in the Sky Tower. During the fall of 192 meters, a top speed of approximately 85 km / h is reached. The fall takes about 11 seconds.

Macau Tower

In August 2005, AJ Hackett made an entry in the Guinness Book of Records by jumping from the observation deck of the Macau Tower . The jump from 233 meters above ground is offered as a tourist attraction. During the 20-second fall, a top speed of around 75 km / h is reached.

Stratosphere Las Vegas

In 2010, the Skyjump in Las Vegas replaced the world record holder in Macau. The jump takes place from the Stratosphere Tower from a height of 260 meters.
