Skyfire is a Swedish melodic death metal band.

Band history

Skyfire was founded in 1995 by school friends Andreas Edlund, Martin Hanner, Jonas Sjögren and Tobias Björk in Höör . The demo Within Reach was recorded in 1997 with Mattias Holmgren from Embracing at the microphone, but the band was ultimately not satisfied with it. For the second demo, The Final Story , Henrik Wenngren joined Skyfire as the singer.

After the release of The Final Story , the Viking metal band Thyrfing Skyfire brokered a contract with the Dutch label Hammerheart Records and on March 12, 2001, Timeless Departure, the band's first studio album, was released. The mini-CD Haunted by Shadows followed on April 7, 2003.

Before the release of the album Mind Revolution on May 5, 2003, drummer Tobias Bjork was replaced by Joakim Johnsson. The last change to the line-up to date followed a few months after the release of Spectral on May 21, 2004 (in Europe via Arise Records ), when bassist Jonas Sjögren left and Johan Reinholdz was included.

style

Skyfire's music can roughly be classified as Melodic Death Metal , but is influenced by many other styles (e.g. Black Metal and Symphonic Metal ). Characteristic are the concise keyboard melodies and the black metal-like vocals of Henrik Wengren, which is why a comparison with the music of Kalmah and Children of Bodom is closest .
