The championship was first held in 1994 and is now Canada's largest skateboarding competition. In 2005 there were over 25,000 spectators on site. The summer time event currently takes place at BC Place Stadium and usually lasts three days. The competition is sponsored by Solo Mobile and Vans . In 2006 the event was held for the first time outside of Vancouver, in Calgary . The Slam City Jam is, among other things, a playable level in the video game Tony Hawk's Underground .
