Ryan Allen Sheckler (born December 30, 1989 in San Clemente , California ) is an American skateboarder .

Career

Sheckler claims that he made his first attempts to ride his father's old skateboard at the age of 18 months. His foot position is regular (left foot in front). He tried his first tricks at the age of six. In the summer of 1995 Sheckler's father built a so-called ramp and all sorts of other equipment for his son and the children from the neighborhood. The mother heard about the CASL (California Amateur Skateboarding League) and a competition in Hemet , where Sheckler participated and won. In 1997, 1998 and 2001 he also won the State Skateboarding Championships in California. Sheckler is a multiple X-Games medalist.

Sheckler is sponsored by Plan-B Skateboards, Etnies and Red Bull, among others . Ryan also owns a private skate park that can be used for training purposes.

Family and development

Ryan was born the eldest of three sons. His mother, Gretchen, and his father, Randy, are divorced. His brothers Shane and Kane are also skateboarders.

In 2003 he became a “professional skater” for the skateboard manufacturer Almost , at the age of 13 he was the second youngest in this sport (the youngest professional was Nyjah Huston at the age of eleven). In the same year he won a gold medal in the Skateboard / Park discipline at the Summer X Games , making him the youngest X Games gold medalist to date.

In the meantime, Sheckler also tried motocross , but without being able to build on his skateboarding successes. He lived in San Clemente with his mother and two younger brothers Shane and Kane until he moved out . His reality show Life of Ryan was on MTV . In 2008 a film called "Street Dreams" came out with him.

Ryan Sheckler is also a character in some of the Tony Hawk's video game series.

In May 2009, Sheckler launched his new clothing line, RS, which is mainly offered at JC Penney .

In November 2017, Sheckler reported that he was alcoholic and that his sports activities were suffering from his drinking. He then went to a rehab clinic. The withdrawal therapy was successful, and Sheckler has been skating more and more on his personal Instagram profile (as of spring 2019).
