Slam master (also: Slam-Master , Slam master or Slammaster ) are called the organizers and hosts of a regular poetry slam , while the authors are called slam poets . Slam masters often act as slam moderators. The slam masters fulfill an important function in the poetry slam scene: They are organizers, moderators, networkers, talent scouts, advisors and critics. Depending on the size of the poetry slam, the range of tasks is divided up differently: While the slam masters organize, moderate and apply for smaller slams, clubs have been set up in many regions that distribute these tasks among several organizers.

Some slam masters publish slam anthologies ( Ko Bylanzky / Rayl Patzak : "Planet Slam" (2002), "Planet Slam 2" (2004) Yedermann Verlag), run slam websites, make poetry video clips ( Wolf Hogekamp : "Poetry Clips (Vol.1) "Lingua Video. Bonn. 2005) or working on new event formats for performance literature. (Ko Bylanzky / Rayl Patzak: "Poetry Dead or Alive" 2003 for Münchner Kammerspiele )

Once a year, the slam masters in a previously selected city organize the German-language poetry slam championships . Parallel to the poetry slam competitions, the slam masters from German-speaking countries meet for the annual "Slam Masters Meeting" as part of the championships. The respective state championships are also organized by slam masters from the scene. In regional states, responsibility rotates annually between the organizers in the different cities. At state championships such as the Berlin-Brandenburg Championship, several slam masters from the scene have come together to form "BBSlam eV".
