Physalis volubilis is a plant type from the genus of jujubes ( Physalis ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Physalis volubis is a perennial , herbaceous plant that grows ascending to prostrate. The base is woody. The plant is hairy with articulated, approximately 1 mm long trichomes . The leaves are egg-shaped, pointed to pointed towards the front, heart-shaped at the base, the edge of the leaf is entire. The larger leaves are 25 to 50 mm long and 20 to 40 (rarely only 15) mm wide. The leaf stalks are 10 to 30 mm long.

The flowers are on 15 to 40 cm long peduncles . The calyx is 8 to 10 mm long at the flowering time and about 5 mm wide at the base of the calyx tips. The calyx lobes are narrowly linear and 4 to 6 mm long. The crown is yellow in color and mottled, 12 to 15 mm long and 15 to 25 mm in diameter. The anthers are purple in color and 2.5 to 3.5 mm long.

As the fruit ripens, the calyx enlarges to a length of 25 to 28 mm and a width of 10 to 15 mm. The cross section of the calyx is narrowly ovoid. The berry has a diameter of 8 to 11 mm.

The species is common in Mexico .

Within the genus of the bladder cherries ( Physalis ), the species is classified in the section Lanceolatae of the subgenus Rydbergis .
