Sloan Fellow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sloan Fellows program is a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on general management and leadership that is funded by the American Alfred P. Sloan Foundation . The course is aimed exclusively at managers and entrepreneurs who have at least 10 years of professional experience in management positions. The namesake Alfred P. Sloan originally launched the program in 1940 in order to ensure what he saw as an ideal and comprehensive management education that already requires extensive practical experience. It should not be confused with the Sloan Research Fellowship in Mathematics, Science, and Economics.

Study program

The Sloan Fellows program is offered in cooperation with the MIT Sloan School of Management , Stanford Graduate School of Business and the London Business School .

In terms of content, the Sloan Fellows program is similar to an MBA program in terms of curriculum and process , but requires management experience and is therefore aimed at a different target group. On average, Sloan Fellows have twelve years of leadership experience and are typically between 35 and 45 years old. In addition to the classic subjects of business administration, particular attention is paid to personal development and leadership. Unlike most EMBA programs, which typically span 18 to 36 months and are part-time, the Sloan Fellows program is completed full-time within 12-14 months.

Depending on the electives, the MIT Sloan School of Management awards either a Master of Business Administration or a Master of Science in Global Innovation and Leadership upon successful completion of the program . At Stanford University , participants graduate with a Master of Science in Management, while graduates from London Business School are awarded a Master of Science in Leadership and Strategy.

Sloan Fellowship Award

As part of the Global Business Environment course, which is taught at the London Business School, the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers annually awards the Sloan Fellowship Award for the best research work among all participants.

Among the graduates ( alumni ) of the program include, for example, the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan , the long-time CEO of Hewlett-Packard Carly Fiorina , former CEO of Symantec , John W. Thompson and William Clay Ford, Jr. , chairman of Ford Motor Company and former CEO of Boeing .
